By Bob Abooey (Fri Dec 14, 2007 at 10:25:56 AM EST) In-depth analysis on the MLB steroid scandal (all tags)
The B.A.D.tm

Steroid free since 1978...

Mr. McMurphey has come out with this years holiday schedule and it looks, at first glance, that one Bob A. Booey will only "work" two days the week of Allahmas and two days the following week, due to the fact that Allahmas and New Years day fall on a Tuesday. Frankly I'm all for the two day work week, in fact I can really put my best effort forward and really be a team player if I only have to show up for two days.

Cheaters never prosper uh, they never get away with cheating! Rat bastards. No sir, if you're stealing office supplies (you know who you are) or taking HGH to get more zip on the fastball or not being completely forthright on your tax returns you can be certain it one day it will catch up with you. The really sad thing here is that it didn't have to go down this way if only Oprah (GIRLFRIEND!!) had come out against steroids. Had Oprah (GIRLFRIEND!!) made a statement that steroids are bad these players would have known not to use them. So ultimately the blame for the steroid era in baseball falls squarely on the shoulders of Oprah (GIRLFRIEND!!). For shame.

I played about with Sun Studio for a bit last night and other than the fact that it's written in Java1 it's not awful, it's slowish (thanks Java1), fer sure, but it's quite usable.. In fact I compiled a 64 bit version of Hello World (The Ultra 60 is a 64 bit machine and S10 is a 64 bit OS - ipso facto) that ran amazingly fast (I'm not even going to talk about running nethack in 64 bit mode).

In fact if anyone out there is still running a 32 bit version of Hello World, well, SUCKS TO BE YOU cause I'm kicking your arse all over the place. I must say that I'm making the move from Gnome to CDE as the CDE desktop is much quicker. Much quicker. Sure Gnome looks nice, but some of those neat features/bloat (tabbed terminals etc) really slow things down. The smelly tree-hugging hippies could learn a lesson from the blokes who built CDE, it's not the most attractive thing to look at but it's built for people who want to get work done. I.e., when you click on stuff shit happens NOW.

And finally one of the neat features of the Ultra 60 that wasn't advertised was how it helps to keep your room toasty warm in the cold Winter months. Seriously, she pumps out a constant stream of heat from the back vents by the power supply and the vents by the dual procs.

I'll be having a grilled chicken salad for lunch today, along with a Styrofoam bowl of chicken gumbo, with chicken being the theme for todays lunch. Indeed, I stepped on the scales this morning and I'm at EXACTLY 175 lbs, so even if I put on a few over the next couple weeks (tis the season to eat crap like a motherfucker, cause that's what Jesus was all about) I'll still be within my normal range which is around 172 to 180. So all you HHNFC blokes put that up your nose and smoke it, as it were.

Right. Go Browns and go SNOW (we're supposed to get 10 feet of snow) and have a right good weekend.

For some reason, they decided that boxing day is more important than Xmas eve, so we get Tuesday and Wednesday off but not Monday. But being far from scrooges, they say we can all bail at 1 pm on Monday. So two days off followed by three hours work and then another two days off.

They were going to do the same for New Years, but at the last minute gave us an extra holiday.

We do a lot of work with government entities and they pretty much shut down for the last couple weeks of the year so it makes no sense for us to show up at all until the first of the year.

The Bills are on a roll by georgeha (2.00 / 0) #2 Fri Dec 14, 2007 at 10:36:25 AM EST
if you have the chance, pick up Trent Edwards for your FF team, he's the QB of the future.

I'm not falling for that by Bob Abooey (2.00 / 0) #3 Fri Dec 14, 2007 at 10:43:35 AM EST
Just last year you said the same thing about LOSSman. No sir, fool me once shame on me, fool me twice and, uh, er, we won't get fooled again.

That said the Bills are playing pretty well - it should be a pretty good game.

Warmest regards,

Year-end is the busiest time for me this year. Fortunately, with the new year, my new gig will have the first few weeks of every quarter be the busiest times for me. The slight shift of emphasis does make all the difference.

Coincidentally, that also happens to be the day you guys finally send all those overdue copy decks and design changes to your suppliers who will then need to work through the holidays to have everything ready for 01/02/08.

So Bob, by sasquatchan (2.00 / 0) #6 Fri Dec 14, 2007 at 11:24:43 AM EST
do you pay the electric bill directly, or is it part of the rehabe centre's rent ?

Inquiring minds want to know ...

And did you compile nethack for 64 bit ? I'm curious about that, since I believe the code runs on such a large number of platforms, but I vaguely recall NOT seeing any 64 bit porting specific instructions or any 64-bit cleanup #defs in the code, or even a native 64bit build in the available binaries.. But it's been a while since I peeked at it.

Well by Bob Abooey (2.00 / 0) #7 Fri Dec 14, 2007 at 11:57:08 AM EST
Okay - you got me - I didn't turn on the 64 bit compiler switches when I compiled nethack, so it's really running in 32 bit ELF mode, or whatever, but you and I both know that she would just scream as a 64 bit app. Ineed - clubbing a Gnome to death in 64 bits is the stuff dreams are made of.

re: Elec - yeah - I don't imagine it's using much more juice than my decked out dual core Dell - but I don't know for sure. It's only on for a couple hours a day plus another 30 minutes when it syncs with the Soviet Satellite. Still - I'm sure I'm saving money when you factor in the savings on the heating bill.

Warmest regards,
--Your best pal Bob

for a whiteout at foxboro, bob.

Also I actually get to watch the vikings on TV this week, as opposed to a double serving of the heinous 49ers and Raiders.

When I'm imprisoned as an enemy combatant, will you blog about it?

With the right OS installed, it'll run 17 YouTube videos simultaneously.

All you have to do is fork the source code. by Horatio Hellpop (2.00 / 0) #14 Fri Dec 14, 2007 at 03:15:01 PM EST
I'll be doing that over the Holy Days.

Shouldn't be too hard to do by Bob Abooey (2.00 / 0) #15 Fri Dec 14, 2007 at 03:21:41 PM EST
As it's only 32 bit - now if it were a 64 bit os, like Solaris, well, that's twice as hard to fork as you've got twice as many bits to deal with.

it wasn't cheating by alprazolam (2.00 / 0) #20 Mon Dec 17, 2007 at 02:35:46 PM EST
technically it wasn't against the rules to take steroids, so, you know, it wasn't cheating.

Well by Bob Abooey (2.00 / 0) #21 Mon Dec 17, 2007 at 04:39:38 PM EST
I'm not sure you should need rules that state it's cheating if you're taking illegal drugs, but such is the state of affairs.

Also - Unless Milman has a miracle night with the Vikes D it looks like it's we're duking it out for the championship next week.
