Working on mysteries without any clues since 1978...

It was 66 years ago today when the iRAqii Air Force bombed our navy at Pear Harbour, killing thousands of innocent sailors and blowing up millions of dollars worth of boats. Frankly I think that act was much more despicable than when they bombed our Twin Towers on 9/11 yet nobody seems to want to talk about it anymore. All we hear about is how Rudi Gooliani and his wife/cousin stood out there in the face of death and gunned down the iRaqii bombers with a red rider pellet gun on 9.11, but nobody talks about the heinous act of the iRaqii on 1941, and all the heroic actions of various NY Governors back then, whoever they were. That's why today I'm wearing my Remember 12.7 patch proudly on my sweatshirt. We have to remember it or the iRaqii will do it again someday - mark my words.

I didn't hear Mitt Rommel's speech on Mormonism yesterday but I'm guessing he went on about how if he's elected or appointed President he's going to force everyone to become a Mormon and worship Joseph Smith while having multiple wives. Frankly I'm opposed, er, wait, no, no, I'm all for this. Lets face it the whole idea that a man should only be attached to one woman is sooooo 1800's and frankly it's been a long time comin that we have a Mormon elected who has the balls to fix this one small issue. All Hail Mitt!! The One True Mormon!!

So thanks be to God that a consortium of lenders and government officials got together and decided to artificially prop up housing prices bail out the poor victims of the housing crisis who were only invoking their God given right to buy a house with a no-money-down-ARM and were going to lose their homes because they can't afford them. It's times like this when you realize the big money lobbyists and corporations aren't only looking out for themselves but really do care about the rights of the common man! God Bless the banks and the government for making this sacrifice!

If all goes well I'll have the Ultra 60 up and running this weekend! All I need is one more cable which should be arriving today or tomorrow at the latest. Then, if all goes well, I'll begin my TOP SECRET operation which I can't bring up here, for the obvious reason (the Feds monitor my diary) but those who subscribe to my newsletter will get all the details. On a completely unrelated note - does anyone have any good suggestions for Solaris programs that allow you to encrypt a portion of a hard drive?

Right. I'll be having a Grilled Chicken Salad (with freedom dressing) for lunch today, along with a styrofoam cup of the soup de jour of the day, whatever that may be.

worthless by sasquatchan (2.00 / 0) #15 Fri Dec 07, 2007 at 03:42:12 PM EST
any of the beast-specific weapons are pretty much worthless. Trollsbane, Giantslayer, Orcist, Sting, dragon bane, ogresmasher, werebane All useless..

Now, demonbane may be useful once you get to Hell, but other weapons do just as well there.

Loans by ucblockhead (4.00 / 2) #8 Fri Dec 07, 2007 at 11:43:44 AM EST
I'm currently preparing a lawsuit against my mortgage company for improperly convincing me to get a fixed rate loan, thereby depriving me of the opportunity to get into the teaser-rate-made-permanent program.

I think ZFS shold have encryption by LinDze (2.00 / 0) #13 Fri Dec 07, 2007 at 02:19:51 PM EST
I seem to recall that transparent encryption for ZFS volumes should be out about now, or Real Soon Now.

not yet, i dont think. by LinDze (2.00 / 0) #18 Fri Dec 07, 2007 at 06:17:54 PM EST
Its the new hotness that sun is pushing it real hard.  Its stable and all, but i dont think the standard installer uses it for the root fs, and a quick double check shows the transparent crypto stuff to be in alpha test release.

A proposal isn't policy by lm (2.00 / 0) #16 Fri Dec 07, 2007 at 04:38:37 PM EST
First, no one likes Bush's proposal and I doubt that it will ever become an actual policy. If he tries to implement it, the feds will get sued right and left because Bush's proposal screws over the people who bought mortgage backed securities.

Second, even should it ever become actual  policy, there are very few people it will help, a couple hundred thousand of borrowers out of a pool of millions taht are possibly facing foreclosure so, for the most part, you'll get your wish of those who were unable or unwilling to understand the mortgage paperwork getting kicked out of their homes.

The best proposal I've seen yet is to pass legislation requiring banks that foreclose on mortgages to rent out the house to the former borrower until such time as the borrower does not make rent. I think such a policy would do a good job of penalizing most of the poor decision makers sufficiently as to motivate them to avoid this problem in the future.

There is no more degenerate kind of state than that in which the richest are supposed to be the best.

I don't want them kicked out by Bob Abooey (2.00 / 0) #17 Fri Dec 07, 2007 at 04:53:01 PM EST
Nor do I want to get kicked out if I'm unable to pay my agreed upon monthly rent. I'm fine with your rental idea too, btw.

I'm not fine with people getting bailed out just because they acted irresponsibly, mainly because I've seen my sisters live that way (they can't tell the difference between being able to "make the monthly payment" on something and being able to afford something) and instead of ever being forced to crash and burn and suffer the consequences of their actions they bilked my dad and grandfather out of tens of thousands of dollars over the years, which, just serves to enable their behaviour.

So yeah - if you don't want to be an adult and give more than two seconds thought to MAJOR financial decisions then you should pay the piper when he comes a-callin.

Warmest regards,
--Your best pal Bob
